10” x 20” Oil on canvas

This painting came from a spontaneous moment while helping a friend move — I didn’t even know she had chickens until they came racing across the backyard. That quick, lively scramble stuck with me, and I wanted to capture the surprise and energy of it.

I began with a bold red underpainting, letting it peek through the layered blues and bright yellows. The loose, expressive brushwork holds onto the movement of the birds and the playful feeling of the moment.

The original painting is available in my shop.
