NO AC SUMMER

10” x 20” Oil on canvas

This painting came from one particularly hot day. While trying to escape the late summer heat, some friends and I went over to the Whatcom falls swimming spot. It seemed like half the town had the exact same idea as the space was filled with people cooling off in the cold and blue water.

I began with a bold red underpainting, letting it peek through the layered blues and cool pinks. The loose, expressive brushwork holds onto the movement of the people in the water and the playful feeling of the moment.
