urban koi

16” x 16” Oil on canvas

This painting was inspired by a small koi pond I stumbled upon near the edge of a parking lot — an unexpected bit of calm in the middle of town. I was first drawn to the reflections, lilypads, and scattered flower petals on the surface, and then noticed the bright orange and red koi moving just beneath the water.

The piece is painted in layered oil with loose, expressive marks to capture that quick, vivid moment of color and movement.

Prints available in my shop.
