casting out

10” x 10” Oil on canvas

This piece was inspired by my first visit to Anacortes, where the coastline was dotted with fishermen and patterned with footprints in the sand. I loved the mix of quiet activity and open space — peaceful, but still full of small moments of life.

The title “Casting Out” plays on both the long casted shadows stretching across the beach and the casting of fishing lines into the water. A bright red underpainting shines through the blues of the sky and water, adding warmth and energy to the scene. The shadowed footprints give a subtle sense of the people moving in and out of the landscape.

The original is available in my shop.
