Studio mate
24” x 36” Oil on canvas
Studio Mate is a quiet observation—a quick glance across the room, a pause in my own work to take in someone else's way of being. This piece began as a simple moment: noticing the odd, endearing way the person I share my studio with sits at his desk. The way he folds into his work, completely focused, as if I'm not even there.
It’s a portrait of routine and proximity, of the quiet companionship that builds over time without words. More than a study of posture or space, it’s a small act of documentation—of the everyday quirks that make someone who they are, especially when they’re not performing for anyone.
This work is a reflection of my day-to-day: a reminder that even the way someone sits—absorbed, crooked, comfortable—can say something about the life we live next to each other.
