2 of Clubs comes from the experience of trying a new restaurant and observing the space while waiting on food. That in-between time filled with sharing appetizers, noticing the lighting, and taking in the atmosphere often reveals the personality of a place.

In this painting, I focused on capturing the feeling of the environment through color and mark-making. The small square format keeps the composition tight and concentrated, reflecting the contained, intimate nature of sitting at a table and absorbing a new setting.
