still life #5

6” x 6” Oil on canvas

Still Life #5 is a small painting with a loose, gestural approach. I started with a bright magenta underpainting, letting it peek through the layers to bring a sense of life to the scene. An empty plate sits at the center, with a fork and knife resting casually on top—evidence of something recently finished.

I’m drawn to these quiet aftermaths. The piece invites questions: What was eaten? Who was here? It’s less about the food and more about the trace of experience—the leftovers of a moment that’s already passed.
