Five empty units
20” x 32” Acrylic on canvas
Five Empty Units is a diptych inspired by a moment outside my apartment complex. Early one morning, I noticed my neighbor’s dumpster after she’d moved out—her car gone, the unit empty. What caught my attention was the mess left behind: a broom, a trashcan, children’s toys, and more.
It was chaotic and overwhelming, but also deeply real—a snapshot of what it must feel like to juggle three kids on move-out day. Through this piece, I wanted to explore how much we reveal about ourselves in the things we discard, and how everyday clutter can tell a story of struggle, care, and transition.
