cafe blue Breakfast

20” x 24” Oil on canvas

Cafe Blue is a still life painted mid-meal at one of my favorite coffee shops in town. Half-eaten food, a crumpled napkin, a glass pushed off to the side—nothing was arranged or cleaned up. It’s a moment captured just as it was, partway through.

The bright underpainting glows through the brushwork, with blues, purples, and warm highlights giving energy to an otherwise quiet scene.

Cafe Blue isn’t just about the food or the coffee (though both are great). It’s the kind of place where no one seems to be in a rush. People linger at the counter, chatting with staff, sharing life updates while they wait for their to-go orders. Regulars know each other. Strangers feel welcome. It’s a sweet place, full of sweet people.

This painting is part of my ongoing interest in documenting real, unposed moments — especially the ones that often go unnoticed. The everyday, the halfway-done, the slightly messy.
